Following the Call to Create
Written November 11, 2025
This morning, I woke up with a deep hunger to create. A restless energy moved through me — that familiar tension of not knowing what to make but feeling the urgent pull to make something.
I sat at my art table with coffee in hand, surrounded by piles of potential: vintage floral handkerchiefs, colorful threads, oracle cards, pens, markers, and journals. Everything was filled with possibility and I could sense that something new was calling to me, but I couldn’t quite grasp it.
So I whispered to myself, “Creative spirit inside my heart, show me the way.”
Almost instantly, I felt guided to pull out one of my vintage art journals and paint. I said yes. I grabbed my bright gouache paints, filled a cup with water, turned on music, and dove in.
As I opened the pages, three beautiful pressed purple flowers caught my eye that I had tucked in there at some point from my mom’s garden. I touched them gently, listening, drawn into their delicate petals and radiant energy. Then I noticed words on the page — “luminosity begins” and “They are drawn out” and “the flight” — all of them made me smile. I circled them. Then my hands reached for brushes, and I began to dance with color, rhythm, and intuition.
The process took over. I wasn’t thinking; I was feeling and what I felt was joyful, alive, connected to the creative force and free. Eventually, the energy softened, and I sat in the stillness afterward, buzzing with life.
It was amazing — that pure, electric aliveness that art brings when I surrender and trust the creative flow.
Here are some photos from my experience today.
